Here are seven reasons why we know you’ll love living in Straus Park.

Historically significant and sleekly modern, Straus Park is a beloved planned community in Brevard, NC. Straus Park offers residents the best of mountain life, with hiking trails, a large meadow, and a green pond usually filled with ducks and canoes.

Are you looking for a great neighborhood in the heart of Transylvania County? Here are seven reasons why we know you’ll love living in Straus Park.

1. It’s like summer camp every day!

Camp Straus was created shortly after World War II by Harry Straus, owner of the then-operational Ecusta Mill. The plant employed a large number of local residents, and Mr. Straus hosted frequent activities at the camp for employees, their families, and the community.  In the late 1990s, the community of Straus Park was recommissioned from the camp, adhering to a “mountain harmony” philosophy. Many of the original features of the camp remain, including the pond, meadow, and hiking trails. These features all harmoniously intertwine with the residential development of today.

2. You have your choice of home type

The community of Straus Park covers an alarming elevation range. That might be a concern for many home communities, but in Straus Park it has allowed for a wide variety of residential opportunities. The neighborhood features a variety of home types for every homeowner, from condominiums to townhouses to luxury homes. Best of all, most of the homes take advantage of the elevation by showcasing exceptional mountain views.

3. Your neighbors are the best

Driving through Straus Park, you will find yourself waving at neighbors walking their dogs. You’ll enjoy the sound of kids playing in the pool or meeting for a playdate in the open meadow. And you may take a brief stop in your commute to allow Canada geese to wade across the street. Neighbors and friends alike also catch up while shopping at the community’s organic grocery store. In Straus Park, you have every opportunity to connect with your neighbors and become true friends—a real community of residents.

4. You don’t have to leave for a good time

Straus Park covers nearly 315 acres of Brevard. While there’s plenty to do in the area (see below), you don’t have to travel far from your front step for a great afternoon. Inherited from Camp Straus, the community features a seven-acre mountain pond that offers opportunities for swimming and canoeing. Green-thumbed friends bring the community garden to life starting in the early spring. Residents enjoy access to a community clubhouse with a seasonal pool and tennis courts. Summertime brings community-wide events in the clubhouse, with music and laughter spilling from the timber-framed building down to the pond. Plus, Straus Park features its own growing business park, complete with medical facilities, a veterinary office, and organic grocery store.

5. The outdoors are on your back step

Remarkably, more than half of the land in Transylvania County is publicly owned and protected. This includes 88,000 acres of Pisgah National Forest, the 10,000-acre DuPont State Park, the 7,600-acre Gorges State Park, and the 6,700-acre Headwaters State Forest. Tucked along the edge of the Pisgah National Forest, Straus Park is literally steps from myriad opportunities for biking, camping, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, paddling, and sightseeing.

6. Downtown Brevard is a great place to spend the day

When you need a night on the town, there’s plenty to enjoy in the heart of Brevard. The town is a vibrant and walkable hub of independent shops, boutiques, galleries, pubs, eateries, and a diverse selection of local art! Enjoy one of the many public events and festivals held annually in town, including the iconic White Squirrel Festival each Memorial Day weekend. Each summer, Brevard’s Main Street also becomes a prime place to cut a rug. The town hosts weekly Old Time Street Dances to a soundtrack of live bluegrass.
