Here are just five of the myriad ways there are to Live Abundantly in Straus Park.

A couple generations ago, Transylvania County residents of all ages would congregate at Camp Straus. The camp boasted that nearly every kid in the county had once waded past the salamanders and tadpoles to take their first dip in the waters of its seven-acre pond. Today, residents of Straus Park are still making abundant memories in the community’s wonderful outdoor spaces. And there are as many ways to live in Straus Park as there are spaces to enjoy.

Here are just five of the myriad ways there are to Live Abundantly in Straus Park.

Live the camp life in Straus Park

Camp Straus was created shortly after World War II by Harry Straus, owner of the then-operational Ecusta Mill. The plant employed a large number of local residents, and Mr. Straus hosted frequent activities at the camp for employees, their families, and the community. Residents from all over the county have a story or two about adventures at Camp Straus! In the late 1900s, the camp was recommissioned as Straus Park, a modern residential community. Many of the original features of the camp remain, all of which harmoniously intertwine with the residential development of today.

Live the mountain life in Straus Park

Straus Park adheres to a “mountain harmony” philosophy. The community’s 315 acres cover an alarming elevational range. These variations have led to a wide variety of residential opportunities, from condominiums to townhouses to luxury homes—all with exceptional mountain views. In addition to views, residents enjoy hiking trails, a large and vibrant meadow, and a seven-acre mountain pond usually filled with ducks and canoes. What’s more, Straus Park butts up against Pisgah National Forest, a treasure trove of natural wonders and the Cradle of Forestry. The Art Loeb trailhead is just a short distance away, as are Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock, some of the biggest attractions in the area.

Live the club life in Straus Park

The active Straus Park clubhouse and pool overlooks Straus Lake. Shortly before redevelopment, the pond at Camp Straus was the only area offering free swimming lessons in Transylvania County. Today, summertime brings community-wide events in the clubhouse, with music and laughter spilling from the timber-framed building down to the pond. Driving through Straus Park, you will find yourself waving at neighbors walking dogs and taking a brief stop to allow Canada geese to wade across the street. Families meet for playdates in the open meadow. Green-thumbed friends bring the garden to life, starting in early spring.

Live the convenient life in Straus Park

Straus Park is home to its own growing business park. Within the park are a dentist, several attorneys, and a FedEx drop box. Loop around to the community’s other entrance, and you’ll find medical facilities, a veterinarian office, sewing shop, and bank. Neighbors and friends alike catch up while shopping at the center’s organic grocery store. With both entrances on U.S. Highway 64 (Asheville Highway) across from Transylvania Regional Hospital, residents have a straight shot into downtown Brevard, or can easily reach Interstate 26 and Asheville Regional Airport just a few miles away.

Live the Brevard life in Straus Park

Being a small town doesn’t mean you can’t offer some of the finest charms Western North Carolina has to offer. Less than a mile down the road, Downtown Brevard is a vibrant and walkable hub of independent shops, boutiques, galleries, pubs, and eateries. The town has distinguished itself as an epicenter for outdoor adventures, education, art, and music. Brevard College offers more than 40 major and minor degree programs to its student body of nearly 700 students. And Brevard is rich in year-round events and festivals.
