As more and more homeowners opt to stay in their homes for longer, kitchen renovations are becoming increasingly popular. According to the latest Cost vs. Value Report, a minor kitchen remodel will cost homeowners about $26,000, while a major kitchen remodel will run upwards of $76,000. If a kitchen renovation is in your future, here’s what’s trending in 2024.
Style choices
Transitional style–a blend of contemporary and traditional styles—is still the most requested style when renovating a kitchen, with 26% of homeowners picking this decor style. A modern kitchen is selected 12% of the time, while contemporary, traditional and farmhouse-style kitchens are selected less, with 11%, 9%, and 9% of homeowners selecting those types of kitchens, respectively.

Cabinet upgrades and selections
Cabinets can easily be the most expensive item in a kitchen renovation, with 70% of homeowners opting to replace cabinets, 26% deciding to partially replace cabinets, and only 4% choosing not to update cabinetry.
Custom cabinets are the most popular route to go, with 45% of those renovating choosing those, while 35% go with a semicustom cabinet, 10% choose ready-to-assemble, 9% choose stock and 2% choose other.
A shaker-style door is the most popular option (60%), followed by a flat-panel door (22%), a raised panel (12%) and a glass-front door (3%).
In terms of color, homeowners are increasingly opting for a two-toned look, selecting a different cabinet color for the top that often contrasts with the bottom. In terms of the most popular cabinet colors for upper cabinets, white still reigns supreme, with 52% of homeowners selecting those, followed by 17% selecting wood, 8% selecting gray and 6% selecting beige.
Wood seems to be the most requested for lower cabinets, with 28% selecting those, followed by 20% selecting blue, 14% selecting gray, 11% selecting green and only 10% selecting wood.

Countertop selections
White countertops are still the most popular selection, with 43% selecting this look, followed by a multi-colored countertop, which 17% of homeowners choose. Black and beige countertop choices are selected at much lower rates, with 10% opting for black and 7% opting for beige.
Quartz is still very desirable among those renovating, and has actually experienced a boost in popularity over the last few years. As of now, 46% of homeowners are choosing this material, followed by 20% choosing granite, 11% choosing quartzite, 9% choosing butcher block and 4% choosing marble.

Flooring selections
In terms of flooring, LVP is giving hardwood floors a run for its money, as a growing number of homeowners opt to use this in their kitchen and throughout their home. The latest data shows 23% opted for this type of flooring, while 24% opted for hardwood floors, 18% chose ceramic, 16% selected engineered hardwood, 9% chose laminate and 6% chose natural stone.
